The Giampietro Puggioni Winery is a Cannonau winery established in 2002 by Giampietro Puggioni. It is Giampietro's passion for farming and wine, his three generations experience in wine-making field, combined with knowledge of soils and modern wine-making technologies that enabled him to realize his childhood dream: opening his own winery.
In 2003 Giampietro gives his business a new direction by purchasing the ex-cooperative winery of Mamoiada. The winery, with its original wine tower, is clearly visible to the visitors coming to the village, it is composed of 4 floors with reinforced concrete tanks, and it is equipped with the latest technology in stainless steel and wood. Its proximity to the vineyards enables to minimize the time between the harvest and the grapes reaching the winery allowing for their immediate pressing. Over the years, the Giampietro Puggioni Winery has received many awards from the most important wine guides such as l'Espresso and il Gambero Rosso, particularly worthy of mention is the prestigious Grand Vinitaly Prize awarded at the Vinitaly Wine Competion. Giampietro Puggioni Winery's vineyards are located in the hills around the village of Mamoiada. The brush-trained (goblet pruning) vines are grown using organic agricultural methods in the most suitable decomposed granite soils of Mamoiada, at an average elevation of 700 m asl and a maximum yield per hectare of 60 quintals. Strong day-night temperature swings and a good soil acidity give Giampietro Puggioni wines an unmistakable bouquet with scents of morello cherry.
